Rajasthan High Court Constitutes Committee To Decide If BSc Biochemistry Is Equivalent To Biology With Chemistry And Zoology

Rajasthan High Court has directed the Rajasthan University of Health Science (RUHS) to form an independent Equivalence Committee to decide whether B.Sc. Biochemistry was equivalent to B.Sc. Biology with Chemistry and Zoology.

The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Maneesh Sharma has asked RUHS to submit a report in this regard within one month.

For context, the Court was hearing a challenge against the order of the single judge that had allowed the respondent to provisionally join the course of M.Sc. (Med)- Microbiology.

This decision was challenged by RUHS before the Court in the background of the fact that the respondent had studied Biochemistry for her bachelors.

It was contended by RUHS that equivalence of M.Sc (Med) Microbiology to the subjects that were necessarily mentioned in the advertisement could not have been made by the single judge in this case.

After hearing the contentions, the Court prima facie agreed with the contentions of RUHS. However, it was opined that in light of the nature of subjects studied by the respondent while undergoing the course of Biochemistry, it would be in the interest of justice to form an Equivalence Committee.

The Equivalence Committee has to decide as to whether B.Sc. Biochemistry was equivalent to B.Sc. Biology with Chemistry and Zoology.

Hence, the Vice Chancellor of RUHS was directed to form such Equivalence Committee, and a report in this regard was sought within one month.

The matter is listed on August 10, 2026.
