CSIPR, NLIU Bhopal Announces 1st NLIU–Anand & Anand Trademark Opposition Competition
The Cell for Studies in Intellectual Property Rights (CSIPR) at the National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal, has announced the launch of the 1st NLIU–Anand & Anand Trademark Opposition Competition, a first-of-its-kind practice-oriented simulation dedicated exclusively to trademark opposition proceedings.
CSIPR at NLIU is an initiative aimed at promoting research and academic engagement in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The Cell conducts conferences, workshops, and training sessions, and also publishes the annual flagship NLIU IPR Law Journal, thereby contributing to the development of rigorous scholarship in IP law.

About The Event
The 1st NLIU-ANAND & ANAND Trademark Opposition Competition is a first-of-its-kind, practice-oriented IP dispute simulation focusing exclusively on trademark opposition proceedings. The Competition aims to provide law students with hands-on experience in navigating statutory provisions, drafting key pleadings before the Trade Marks Registry, and presenting oral arguments on issues of registrability, confusion, dilution, and procedural compliance.
The Competition mirrors real-world opposition practice by requiring participants to draft both a Notice of Opposition and a Counter-Statement, followed by oral rounds judged by intellectual property experts from the partnering law firm.
Participation and Registration
All law colleges/institutions/universities across the country recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to take part in the Competition. All participants must be currently pursuing their Bachelor's degree in Law, i.e., either 3-year or 5-year courses. Any number of teams per college/institution/university shall be allowed to participate.
Last day for Online Registration is 15th December 2025, 23:59 hours.

Registration Guidelines
Phase I Registration
Each team desiring to participate must first fill the Phase I Registration Form , which will be released by CSIPR. The Phase I registration form, along with all required details, must be submitted by 10th December, 2025.
Based on the Phase I registration, selected teams will be notified via email within 24 hours.
Phase II Registration
Top 20 teams based upon the cumulative Written Submission score must first fill the Phase II Registration Form , which will be released by CSIPR. The Phase II registration form, along with all required details, must be submitted by 10th January, 2025.
Registration Fees
Phase 1:
A base registration fee Rs. 1,000/- (inclusive of GST) applicable to all teams wishing to participate in the competition. This fee grants eligibility to participate in the Written Submission qualification round.
Phase 2:
An additional fee of Rs. 4,500/- (inclusive of GST) applicable only to the top twenty teams that qualify for the oral rounds based on their performance in the Written Submission qualification round. This fee is inclusive of the cost of accommodation and food for the duration of the competition
