Jindal Global Law School To Host Surana And Surana India National Rounds Of The 26th Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition [11th to 13th February 2022]

The Stetson International Environmental Moot - Surana and Surana India National Rounds are being organized by Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) in association with Surana & Surana International Attorneys. The Competition will be held in virtual mode from 11th to 13th February 2022.

The Stetson International Environmental Moot is one of the world's largest moot court competitions dedicated exclusively to environmental issues. This year, the India rounds would be witnessing participation from 20 of the top law schools in India.

Speaking about the importance of the Stetson Moot, Dr. Vinod Surana, Managing Partner & CEO, Surana & Surana International Attorneys stated that, "With increasing impact of global warming on human life and activity it is becoming more important for effective policy making and implementation of regulations to protect and preserve the environment for future generations".
Jindal Global Law School has been hosting India rounds of the Stetson Moot in association with Surana & Surana International Attorneys since 2018. On this association and on the significance of moot courts in legal education, Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University observed, "Mooting is an integral part of legal education. It helps build practical knowledge and promotes creative thinking. Jindal Global Law School has been fortunate to partner with Surana & Surana on the national rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Moot since 2018 to give students in India a platform to build teamwork, gain confidence and interact with some of the best practitioners of environmental law in the world."

The Executive Dean of Jindal Global Law School, Prof. (Dr.) S.G. Sreejith observed that, "Law schools across India have shown great commitment towards developing a mooting culture by giving their students the opportunity to represent the college in national and international platforms. Stetson, being a prestigious moot with global recognition, it always creates a lot of enthusiasm every year from the participants and organisers alike, and this year is no different. We are excited and are looking forward to hosting the moot."

The theme for this year's proposition is 'Protected Areas and Armed Conflict.' The competition will be judged by eminent practitioners and academicians who have extensive knowledge and expertise in international and environmental law. The final rounds will be argued before a distinguished panel consisting of Prof. (Dr.) Timo Koivurova, Research Professor, Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, Finland; Dr. Priya Pillai, Legal Consultant, International Law Specialist, and Head of Asia Justice Coalition Secretariat; Ambassador Prof. Gudmundur Eiriksson, Professor of Law, Jindal Global Law School and Former Judge, International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS); Prof. (Dr.) Charu Sharma, Professor of Law, Jindal Global Law School and Prof. (Dr.) Veronica Rebreanu, Professor at the Department of Public Law, Babes-Bolyal University, Romania.
