CNLU Conclave On Legal Higher Education And Research

Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur a constituent of the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) conducted the first Conclave on Legal Higher Education and Research on 14thSeptember with 13 Vice Chancellors of National Law Universities participating and deliberating the road map for higher education.

Prof.(Dr.) V.C.Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor of HNLU set the tone of the conclave with his opening remarks. He opined. " While the National Law Universities have raised the bar of the under graduate programmes as an aspirational one , it did not keep pace with the post graduate and legal research of PhD to such standards and this requires serious introspection and correction by legal educationists."

Prof. Dr. Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU Bangalore highlighted upon the need to have strong fundamentals for specialized post graduate programme and the approach to connect various laws and felt there is a strong revival of interest in Master's programme from the Alumni of NLUs. Prof. Dr. V. Vijayakumar, Vice-Chancellor, NLIU Bhopal spoke emphasized the need for rigorous PG and Research programmes to nurture the future teaching human resources. Prof. Dr. Poonam Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Jodhpur briefly traced the journey of legal education and thereupon emphasized that it is imperative that teachers should possess good communication skills and should also possess the ability to understand and cater to the requirements of different students.

Other Vice Chancellors who spoke included Prof. Dr. S. Shanthakumar, Director, Gujarat National Law University, Prof. Dr. Subir Bhatnagar, Vice-Chancellor, RMLNLU Lucknow, Prof. Dr. K. C. Sunny, Vice-Chancellor, NUALS Kochi, Prof. Dr. V. Kesava Rao, Vice-Chancellor, NUSRL Ranchi, Prof. Dr. V.K. Ahuja, Vice-Chancellor, NLUJA Assam, Prof. Dr. S. Surya Prakash, Vice-Chancellor, DSNLU Visakhapatnam, Prof. Dr. KVS Sarma, Vice-Chancellor, MNLU Aurangabad and Prof. Dr. V. Balakista Reddy, Vice-Chancellor (In-charge) of NALSAR University.

In the forenoon the Executive Council and General Body Meeting of the Constortium took place which deliberated on the successful closure of CLAT 2022 and its future recommendations. The meeting was attended by 13 Vice Chancellors offline and 9 Vice Chancellors online.
