DBRANLU, Sonepat Organises Lecture On “A Perspective On Food: Social, Political, Legal And Policy” In Collaboration With NIFTEM

The Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG) at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University (DBRANLU), Sonepat, organised a lecture titled A Perspective on Food: Social, Political, Legal and Policy” on November 28, 2025. The event was held in academic collaboration with the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), Kundli, an institute functioning under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India.

The lecture was organised under the leadership of Patron-in-Chief Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh,  Vice-Chancellor, DBRANLU, and the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra, Registrar, DBRANLU. The session featured Prof. Ashutosh Upadhyay, Registrar (In-charge), NIFTEM, Sonepat, as the Guest Speaker.

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Upadhyay explored the idea of food as more than a biological necessity, framing it as a central element of social organisation and political governance. He drew connections between the “Right to Food” and constitutional mandates, urging the legal community to view food security as a fundamental right grounded in social justice.

He also provided an overview of the regulatory framework governing the sector, including the Food Safety and Standards Act, and discussed challenges such as supply chain inefficiencies and quality compliance requirements. He stressed the need for a balanced approach combining technological innovation with effective legal governance.

The event was coordinated by Faculty Coordinators Mr. Akash Sharma and Mr. Shobhit Malik (Assistant Professors, DBRANLU, Sonepat), whose efforts ensured smooth execution and meaningful academic interaction for students and faculty attendees.
