DNLU Jabalpur Hosts Conference On Evolution Of Arbitration In India: Today's Scenario, Emerging Challenges & Proactive Reforms

Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur hosted a conference titled “Evolution of Arbitration in India: Today's Scenario, Emerging Challenges & Proactive Reforms” on March 14, 2026.

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Judge, Supreme Court of India; Justice Vivek Rusia, Administrative Judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice Vinay Saraf, Judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice Tejas Karia, Judge, Delhi High Court; and Siddharth R. Gupta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar, with Shashank Pathak, Assistant Professor of Law, and Shruti Tiwari, Assistant Registrar, serving as the Event Coordinators.

Delivering the Chief Guest address, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh spoke about the evolving role of the judiciary in safeguarding constitutional values and individual liberties. His Lordship emphasised that the rule of law must remain anchored in fairness, reasoned decision-making, and sensitivity to the realities faced by citizens. He also encouraged young lawyers and scholars to uphold ethical standards and contribute to strengthening India's justice delivery system.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Justice Vivek Rusia highlighted the importance of procedural fairness and administrative accountability within the justice system. He stressed that timely and effective adjudication is essential to maintaining public trust in the judiciary and encouraged law students to approach the legal profession with integrity and dedication to public service.


Addressing the gathering as Distinguished Guest, Justice Vinay Saraf reflected on the judiciary's role in ensuring clarity, fairness, and constitutional values in adjudication. He emphasised that judicial reasoning must remain accessible and principled, particularly in cases involving individual autonomy and rights, while balancing legal certainty with compassion and constitutional morality.

In his keynote address, Justice Tejas Karia discussed India's expanding role in the global arbitration landscape. His Lordship noted that strengthening institutional arbitration and maintaining judicial consistency are crucial for enhancing India's credibility as an international arbitration hub. He also highlighted the importance of technological innovation and modern legal practices in improving the efficiency of dispute resolution mechanisms.

Delivering the Welcome Address, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha emphasised the importance of dialogue between the Bench, Bar, and academia in shaping the future of India's legal system. He noted that institutions like DNLU play a significant role in nurturing young legal minds and encouraging scholarly engagement with emerging areas such as arbitration and commercial dispute resolution.

During the keynote session, Siddharth R. Gupta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, shared insights from his practice before the Supreme Court and various High Courts. He spoke about the evolution of arbitration law in India and emphasised the need for efficiency, institutional support, and specialised legal expertise in handling commercial disputes. He also encouraged students to engage actively with arbitration as a dynamic field of legal practice.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to seek insights and guidance from the speakers.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Praveen Tripathi, Registrar, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, speakers, organisers, and participants.

The inaugural session set the tone for the conference, reflecting DNLU Jabalpur's commitment to fostering dialogue on contemporary legal developments and strengthening engagement between the judiciary, the Bar, and legal academia.
