NLU Odisha Wins 2nd RGNUL National IP Law Moot Court Competition 2026

The 2nd RGNUL National Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition, 2026 was successfully organised by the Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR) and IKS at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, in collaboration with S.S. Rana & Co., from 9th to 10th March 2026. The competition provided law students with a platform to engage in intellectual property litigation and advocacy, while honing their research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.

The event commenced with the inaugural session and draw of lots for the Preliminary Rounds on 9th March 2026. The competition was graced by distinguished guest assessors, including Nihit Nagpal, Associate Partner, S.S. Rana and Co., Mukesh Choudhary, Examiner of Trademarks, GI and Copyright, CGPDTM, DPIIT, and K. S. Kardam, Former Senior Joint Controller of Patents and Designs, Indian Patent Office who adjudged the final rounds of the competition and shared valuable insights into the evolving landscape of intellectual property law. The Semi-Final rounds were adjudged by esteemed practitioners including Rishabh Rao, Anureet Budwal, Kriti Priyadarshini Litoria, and Charanpreet Singh, along with several other respected academicians and practitioners.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing prestigious law schools across India, with over 50 teams registering for the event. Following the memorial evaluation round, the top 16 teams were selected to advance to the Preliminary Rounds, which were held on 9th March 2026. Subsequently, the top four teams progressed to the Semi-Final and Final Rounds, conducted on 10th March 2026. Throughout the oral rounds, participants delivered rigorous pleadings, demonstrating exceptional advocacy, research, and analytical skills as they addressed complex issues in intellectual property law. The Best Speaker Award was conferred upon Akanksha Jacky, a student of School of Law, UPES, Dehradun, while the Best Memorial Award was awarded to the team from OP Jindal Global University. The Winning Team of the competition was National Law University, Odisha, while the Runners-Up were Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.

The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony during which the winners were awarded a trophy, a cash prize of INR 12,000, and an internship opportunity with S.S. Rana & Co. The Runners-Up received a trophy and a cash prize of INR 8,000, and an internship opportunity with SpicyIP, while the Best Speaker and Best Memorial awards carried a cash prize of INR 5,000 each.

The competition reaffirmed RGNUL's commitment to academic excellence and practical legal training, while providing students with an invaluable opportunity to interact with leading professionals in the field of intellectual property law.
