NUALS Team Wins Best Applicant Memorial At Jessup International Moot 2026
The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi, has secured a major achievement at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026.
The NUALS team comprising Anasruta Roy (Year V), Divya Upadhyay (Year V), Niyati Prabhu (Year V), Sruthi Susan Mathew (Year V), and Ustat Kaur Sethi (Year IV) secured the Richard R. Baxter Award for Best Applicant Memorial at the international level.
In addition, the team secured the M. Cherif Bassiouni Award (6th Place) at the World Rounds for Overall Best Memorials, and also won the Best Memorial Award (Combined) at the National Rounds.
At the National Rounds, Anasruta Roy was adjudged the 5th Best Speaker, while Ustat Kaur Sethi secured the 9th Best Speaker position among 197 speakers. The National Rounds were conducted by O. P. Jindal Global Law School from February 13 to February 15, 2026.
The competition was organised by the International Law Students Association (ILSA) and White & Case LLP. The International Rounds were held from March 28 to April 4, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency, Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., United States.
The award recognises excellence in written advocacy on behalf of the Applicant side. The 2026 edition witnessed participation from 806 teams across 99 jurisdictions.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, popularly known as the Jessup Moot, is the oldest and largest international moot court competition. It simulates proceedings before the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, through a fictional dispute between countries. Participating teams are required to prepare written memorials and present oral pleadings from both Applicant and Respondent perspectives.
