NUSRL Ranchi Conducts Training Programme On Women At Workplace And Emerging Challenges

The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi organised a one-day basic training programme on “Women at Workplace: Emerging Issues and Challenges” on March 25, 2026, with the support of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi. The programme aimed to build awareness and strengthen understanding of gender justice, workplace equality, and mechanisms addressing sexual harassment in contemporary work environments.

The event commenced with registration at 09:00 AM, followed by the inaugural session from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The session was graced by Ms. Kumari Ranjana Asthana, Principal District Judge and Member of JHALSA; Shri Ranjit Choudhary, retired District Judge; Prof. (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice-Chancellor of NUSRL; and Dr. Julian Seal Pasari, Programme Convenor. The speakers emphasised the need to strengthen institutional responses to workplace discrimination and harassment, highlighting the role of law, policy, and awareness in promoting gender-equitable workplaces.

Sessions Overview

  • Session I (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM):
    Dr. Rabindra Kumar Pathak, Associate Professor at NUSRL, discussed feminist and conceptual foundations of workplace gender justice, examining gendered labour structures, bodily autonomy, and the critique of “neutral productivity.”

  • Session II (12:05 PM – 01:35 PM):
    Prof. (Dr.) Syamala Kandadai and Ms. Dipshi Swara discussed constitutional and international norms governing workplace equality, focusing on dignity, substantive equality, and constitutional morality.

  • Session III (02:05 PM – 03:35 PM):
    Dr. Vandana Singh, Advocate, High Court of Jharkhand, and Dr. Julian Seal Pasari examined the legal framework on sexual harassment, including the POSH Act, criminal law provisions, and institutional accountability.

  • Session IV (03:40 PM – 05:10 PM):
    Dr. Suhani Sharma, Psychologist and Consultant associated with CyberPeace, addressed harassment in digital and hybrid workplaces, focusing on cyber safety and preventive strategies.

The programme concluded with an MCQ-based evaluation and feedback session, followed by the valedictory session, after which e-certificates were issued to participants.

The training programme provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving legal, social, and institutional challenges faced by women at the workplace, while also highlighting strategies for prevention, accountability, and the promotion of gender-sensitive work environments.
