SIAC Welcomes Indian Delegation; Talks Held On Expanding ADR Partnerships
The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), established in 1991, is widely recognised as one of Asia's leading arbitration centres, with a strong focus on international commercial matters. It boasts a panel of over 600 independent and neutral arbitrators from more than 40 countries.
Earlier this month, SIAC's main centre in Singapore welcomed an Indian delegation comprising Mr. Justice Sandeep Moudgil of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Mr. Justice Ashok Kumar Jain of the Rajasthan High Court, both of whom were honoured during their visit. They were accompanied by Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Sonepat, who joined the meeting virtually, and Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra, the University's Registrar, who attended in person.
Ms. Gloria Lim, Chief Executive Officer of SIAC, personally received and felicitated the Indian delegates, along with SIAC Counsel Rishabh Malviya and Senior Manager (Legal) Ameline Ho, who also participated in the exchange.
Both sides engaged in detailed discussions on the growing relevance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in civil and commercial matters. The dialogue included potential collaborations in policy development, awareness programmes, student internships, and faculty exchanges between DBRANLU Sonepat and SIAC.
The visiting Judges highlighted India's significant progress in adopting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. They noted that the Government of India and the Supreme Court have been actively promoting arbitration and other ADR processes by providing robust institutional support across the country. High Courts nationwide are increasingly encouraging settlements through arbitration, mediation, and conciliation—helping reduce the burden on traditional courts and ensuring quicker resolution of commercial and civil disputes.
The event concluded with SIAC expressing a strong intention to collaborate with DBRANLU Sonepat on future training programmes, seminars, and joint initiatives, with the shared objective of enhancing global understanding and the active promotion of arbitration practices.
