About the Conference
Environmental degradation and ecological crimes have emerged as some of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century. Air and water pollution, illegal wildlife trade, hazardous waste dumping, climate change, and industrial disasters each demand robust legal frameworks and effective enforcement mechanisms. While environmental laws provide the regulatory backbone for protection and conservation, their successful implementation often turns on the quality and admissibility of scientific and forensic evidence. Environmental forensics has become an indispensable tool in identifying pollution sources, establishing causation, and ensuring accountability in environmental litigation. Techniques such as DNA analysis in wildlife crimes, chemical fingerprinting of pollutants, remote sensing, and geospatial technologies dramatically enhance the evidentiary value of findings in judicial proceedings. Recognising the growing need for interdisciplinary collaboration, MNLU Nagpur, in collaboration with NFSU Nagpur and NEERI Nagpur, is organizing a National Conference that brings together experts from environmental law, forensic science, and environmental engineering, to foster dialogue, promote research, and develop actionable policy recommendations for strengthening environmental governance and justice delivery in India.
