The Bombay High Court on Monday disposed of two applications filed by actor Kangana Ranaut seeking directions to the Passport Authority to renew her passport after the latter said it would decide on her plea expeditiously.

The actor approached the court alleging that passport authorities have orally objected to renewing her passport, owing to the FIRs pending against her. Kangan had said her passport will expire on September 15, 2021, and she needs to fly to Hungary to finish shooting the second schedule of her upcoming Hindi movie 'Dhakkad.'

On Monday, a bench of Justices SS Shinde and Revati Mohite Dere specifically constituted to adjudicate the issue heard Kangana's petition.

Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh for the Passport Authority submitted that Kangana's renewal application doesn't mention correct facts. He said only FIRs were pending against the actor, not 'criminal cases,' as wrongly stated by her in her passport application.

The ASG further said that the Passport Authority is willing to consider her passport renewal application in accordance with the Passport Act/rules/ procedure, expeditiously, if her advocate was willing to make a statement in the regard.

Kangana's counsel then made a statement that no cases were pending against her and only FIRs were registered.

"In the light of statement made by the learned counsel appearing for the petitioner, Mr. Anil Singh, learned ASG appearing for Respondent No. 3 (Passport Authority) on instructions submits that the application filed by the petitioner for renewal of passport will be decided as expeditiously as possible, in accordance with relevant provisions of the Passport Act/rules/procedures, expeditiously," the bench said while disposing of the petition.
