In an attempt to deal with the vast number of pending cases before it, the Full Court of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has decided to increase its working hours by 30 minutes and has made amendments to this effect in the Madhya Pradesh High Court Rules, 2008.

Earlier, the working hours of the High Court were from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm, with a recess from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm. Post the amendments, the High Court of Madhya Pradesh will now function from 10.15 am to 4.30 pm, with the recess being from 1.30 pm to 2.15 pm.

Increasing the timings by half an hour each day would aid in the disposal of pending cases, a press note released by the High Court says. Importantly, these amendments have been published in the MP Gazzette Notification which shall be effective from the next working day namely 3rd of January 2022.

It may be noted that in November 2021, the Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association (MPHCBA) had unanimously passed a resolution stating that the working hours of the High Court should be increased by half an hour every day.Indore
