The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) through a press release issued on Thursday (April 24) has announced the commencement of celebrations marking three decades of its establishment, coupled with the upcoming Western Regional Conference scheduled for Saturday (April 26). 

The conference–organized jointly by NALSA and Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA)–is set to take place at the Conference Hall in Kevadia, District Narmada in Gujarat and will be attended by various dignitaries including Supreme Court judges Justice B.R. Gavai–the Executive Chairman of NALSA and Justice Surya Kant, Chairman of Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.

The event shall also be attended by Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal as well as other judges of the high court–Justice Biren A. Vaishnav who is the Executive Chairman of Gujarat State Legal Services Authority, Justice A.S. Supehia, the Chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee and S.C. Munghate Member Secretary NALSA.

“This event will not only celebrate NALSA 's three decades of services but also bolster its vision of promoting an inclusive legal system to deliver justice to the underprivileged. It marks a notable milestone in NALSA 's unwavering dedication to ensuring access to justice for all,” a press release said.

A number of significant launches and initiatives are scheduled for the conference, which includes the launch of NALSA (JAGRITI) – Justice Awareness for Grassroots Rural Information and Transparency Initiative Scheme 2025, which is going to be accompanied by a dissemination video, jingle, e-launch, and hardbound release.

Further, the revised NALSA (DAWN) – Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation for a Drug-free India Scheme, 2025, and NALSA (SAMVAD) – Strengthening Access to Justice for Marginalized, Vulnerable Adivasis and Denotified/Nomadic Tribes Scheme, 2025, will also be introduced with similar outreach materials.

A key highlight of the event is going to be the screening of a three-part documentary series that outlines NALSA 's journey, from its inception to its present role in ensuring justice for all, simultaneously detailing its current initiatives and long-term vision. This series highlights NALSA 's continued commitment to empowering marginalized communities and enhancing access to justice across India.

In addition to this, another key release is going to be the “Speak Up” handbook on the POSH Act, 2013, presented in both English and Hindi (“आवाज़ उठाओ”), supported by dissemination videos, an e-launch, and hardbound copies.

Further, the conference will also feature the release of a book, “NALSA@30 - A Legacy of Free Legal Aid” and impactful videos on “Lok Adalat: Expanding Justice” and “Mediation First: Towards Peaceful Settlements” , supported by dissemination videos and jingles.

The conference will also see the introduction of the NALSA (ASHA) SOP – Towards Eliminating Child Marriage, 2025. Technological advancements will be highlighted with the launch of a redesigned NALSA website, migration of State Legal Services Authorities' (SLSA) websites to the S3waas platform, and the debut of NALSA's AI-powered chatbot, “LESA (Legal Services Assistant).”

Yet, another key digital initiative, “NALSA @Connect,” will be introduced complemented by an explainer video, showcasing NALSA 's dedication to enhancing legal services outreach through technology and innovation.

According to the press release, the dissemination videos throughout these initiatives will feature prominent figures such as Pankaj Tripathi, Shivaji Satam, Rajkumar Rao, Dr. Prakash Amte, Shyam Sunder Paliwal, and Bhaichung Bhutia, adding influential voices to the cause of justice and awareness.

With a range of impactful initiatives, NALSA continues to empower citizens, bring justice closer to every remotest corner of India, and remain true to its vision of fostering a society based on equality, fairness and dignity for all,” the press release adds.
