The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea of a 92 year murder convict, seeking exemption from surrendering before police. The vacation bench of the Apex Court comprising of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and L. Nageswara Rao also dismissed the Special Leave Petition filed by the convict against thejudgment by Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court which had upheld his conviction by the Trial court.

The incident related to an ‘honour killing’ which happened in the year 1980 in Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh. The Trial court had convicted three persons, including Putti, in connection with murder of brother of one Sohan. All of them were sentenced by the Trial court for life imprisonment. During the pendency of appeal, two of them died, and appeal preferred by Putti was dismissed by the High Court in February this year. The convict, Putti, was aged over 50 at the time of this incident in 1980.

Putti then approached the Apex Court, challenging the Allahabad High court judgment, by preferring a Special Leave petition. He had also filed an application seeking exemption from surrendering on the ground of his advanced age. Last Friday, the Apex Court has dismissed his Special Leave Petition.
