CJP Food Volunteer Junaid Malik Moves Supreme Court Alleging Police Harassment Of Family

Junaid Malik, who was a food volunteer during the recent Cockroach Janata Party student protests in Delhi, has moved the Supreme Court alleging that he was illegally detained and harassed by police officials and that his family members were subjected to coercive police action without due process.

In his petition, Malik claims that, on July 24 midnight, when he was returning from RML hospital after taking an anti-rabies injection, he was picked up by police officials from Delhi and kept inside a vehicle for nearly five to six hours. During this period, he alleges that he was threatened and intimidated. His mobile phone was forcefully taken and the officials checked it after forcing him to unlock it. He was asked questions like who was funding him and where were the funds coming for food supplies. Ultimately, he was allegedly dropped at a remote location on the Dehradun Road after 5-6 hours of journey. He ultimately returned to Delhi by taking a cab from Dehradun.

Malik has further alleged that the Ghaziabad Police detained his father and conducted a raid at his residence. According to the plea, the police also visited the Meerut residence of his married sister and allegedly took away her father-in-law and brother-in-law. The family members were later released.

He has alleged that several household articles were damaged during the police raid at his home.

The petition contends that these coercive actions were undertaken without any paperwork or compliance with the procedure established by law.

Seeking the Supreme Court's intervention, Malik has prayed for directions restraining the police from taking any further coercive action against his family members and ensuring that any investigation is conducted strictly in accordance with law.

The application has been filed in the writ petition filed by RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha seeking action against police violence during the CJP protests.
