The Supreme Court Bar Association has written to Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana requesting his urgent approval for a temporary conversion of Advocates Chamber Block in the Supreme Court Complex to be used as a covid care centre or field hospital.

Highlighting the demise of various members due to the second corona wave, the letter also focuses on the "lack of medical infrastructure in and around Delhi" due to which many lives of such members and their family members are being lost.

The letter dated 25.04.2021 written by Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, also the President of the SCBA, suggests thus:

"We request your goodself Vice President to urgently approve temporary conversion of the Advocates' Chamber Block in the Court Complex for use as a Covid-care centre or field hospital. Once an approval is given, we will be in a position to request the Delhi Government to take over the place for converting it into a Covid care centre."

Furthermore, highlighting that the Delhi Government this morning extended the lockdown for another week, the letter states that in view of the current covid situation, the Supreme Court "may consider preponing the summer vacations so that the same may commence from Monday itself i.e. from 26th April 2021. The summer vacations can be curtailed by 1 week so as to limit it to 6 weeks instead of 7 weeks considering the huge pendency created due to the pandemic. Accordingly, it is requested that the summer vacation may end by 6th June and normal courts can start from 7th June 2021."
