The Punjab & Haryana High Court held a late-night hearing via WhatsApp last night, on Punjab Government's plea alleging detention of top bureaucrats by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after raid on the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).

The WhatsApp video call at about 10:42 p.m at Camp office was facilitated from a Mobile Phone belonging to a Senior Assistant of the Court.

During the hearing, senior counsel appearing for the Punjab government alleged detention of IAS officers and GMADA officials.. He questioned whether Article 21 guarantees the constitutional right to citizens of a State, who are themselves constituents of the State in a democratic system.

The Court has issued notice to the ED, returnable today.

Meanwhile, it has appointed a warrant officer in the habeas corpus plea.

"The Warrant Officer shall submit comprehensive status report in that regard on the date fixed by this Court i.e. 24.09.2026 by 02:00 p.m., for further course of action," Court ordered.

Chandigarh Administration i.e Director General of Police. Chandigarh has been directed to provide adequate security and required facilities for compliance of the order.
