SCBA Condemns Killing Of Senior Advocate Khaja Moizuddin, Calls For Fair Investigation
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday strongly condemned the killing of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad, describing it as a “planned, brutal and shocking murder” that has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of advocates.
In a statement issued by SCBA Honorary Secretary Pragya Baghel, the Association said the incident had deeply disturbed the legal fraternity and underscored the vulnerability of lawyers discharging their professional duties.
“The incident has deeply disturbed the legal fraternity and raises serious concerns regarding the safety and security of advocates discharging their professional duties,” the statement said.
Emphasising the larger implications of the attack, the SCBA said the killing was not merely a crime against an individual advocate but an attack on the justice delivery system itself.
“The attack resulting in the death of a member of the Bar is not merely a crime against an individual but an assault on the institution of justice itself. The legal profession forms an essential pillar of the justice delivery system, and any act of violence against advocates strikes at the very foundation of the rule of law,” the Association stated.
The SCBA expressed condolences to Moizuddin's family and urged authorities to conduct a fair, expeditious and thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice at the earliest.
Senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin, who had been practising before the Telangana High Court and the City Civil Court for over three decades, was allegedly killed in a targeted attack outside his residence at Masab Tank in Hyderabad on May 23.
According to reports, CCTV footage purportedly shows a green Scorpio SUV ramming into Moizuddin while he was getting into his car outside his home. He sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed at a private hospital.
