The Supreme Court was informed today(March 12) that the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly has taken a decision on all pending disqualification petitions in connection with the defection of ten MLAs from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi to the Indian National Congress. The Court has disposed of the matter, asking the Speaker to supply a copy of his decision to the petitioners by tomorrow.

A bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice AG Masih was hearing the contempt petitions alleging non-compliance with the Court's July 31, 2025 order, wherein the Court had granted three months for the Speaker to decide on petitions seeking the disqualification of 10 BRS MLAs, who had allegedly crossed over to the Congress.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Senior Advocate Mukul Rohagti (for State of Telangana) submitted that nothing survives in the matter as all matters have been decided by the Speaker. Singhvi informed that as for the decision taken, some of them have already been challenged before the Telangana High Court.

One of the counsels mentioned that the copy of the Speaker's decision has not been given to the petitioners as a measure of delay tactics. The Court passed an order asking the Speaker to supply the decision by tomorrow. "The Office of the Speaker shall supply the order by tomorrow and the entire material to the petitioners within four days as is so required."

After a stern warning from the Court, the Speaker, in last December, decided seven petitions, by rejecting them. The remaining petitions were also decided later.
