The Supreme Court of India refused to entertain a PIL seeking to remove the system of reservations in the country while terming the said PIL "an abuse of process". The PIL, which was filed by an LLM student was listed before a bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha

At the very outset, CJI DY Chandrachud expressed his displeasure at the petition and stated–

"What is this? Remove the system of reservation? This is the plea? Why? Because you are saying it is against equality and it is leading to caste system. We're going to impose costs on this unless you withdraw."

CJI Chandrachud also added that the petition seemed to have been filed by the LLM student for publicity and reiterated that heavy costs would be imposed for filing such a petition. He added–

"The petition is an abuse of the process. There is no valid basis."

The counsel sought to withdraw the petition and it was dismissed as withdrawn accordingly.
