Supreme Court to hear the petition filed by Teesta Setalvad seeking bail in the Gujarat Police FIR over alleged fabrication of documents to file cases in relation to 2002 Gujarat riots.
Teesta's petition challenging the Gujarat High Court's refusal to grant her bail was heard by a bench consisting of Chief Justice U.U. Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia.
In the last hearing of the matter, the bench indicated that it will grant interim bail to Teesta Setalvad but ultimately adjourned the hearing at the repeated requests made by Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta.

CJI dictating order : It is a matter of record that the appellant was remanded to police custody for about 7 days and was interrogated every day by the concerned investigating machinery. Theraafter the appellant was remanded and continues to be in Magisterial custody.
Chief Justice Lalit dictates Order
ASG : Even if complaint has to be filed under 340, investigation is not barred. It is settled law. Bar under 195 applies at the stage of cognisance and not at the stage of FIR. That is settled position. That's all I have to say.
ASG : If signatures are obtained by deception, then it is forgery.
SG : Matters which require contest, they are scattered. This is discretion. It is not that matter was picked up and bail was granted.
CJI to ASG : Yes Mr.Raju, you want to say something.
ASG : Prima facie there is evidence to show signatures were obtained by deception
SG : Give me 3 minutes, I am a little touchy and sensitive about this issue, the allegations that the bail was adjourned selectively...Please see the orders (passed by the HC judge granting bail)...these are small matters..
Sibal : Those 161 statements have been accepted by the Court in the final judgment. There is a Supreme Cour that you can't use these statements in any other case. And they are prosecuting me! Not only prosecution, persecution.
