The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to list on Friday the petition filed challenging the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls in Kerala.

Advocate Haris Beeran mentioned before the Chief Justice of India the petition filed by the Indian Union Muslim League for urgent listing. He submitted that the local body elections are underway in Kerala, and conducting the SIR simultaneously will lead to practical difficulties.

CJI Gavai agreed to list the matter day after tomorrow.  Advocate CK Sasi mentioned the petition filed by the Kerala Government to defer the SIR till the local body elections are completed. CJI agreed to list all the matters together.

The IUML's petition challenges the notification issued to conduct SIR and seeks stay of the process citing the local body elections.

The Kerala Government has not challenged the SIR notification as such and only seeks the postponement of the process.
