The Migration and Asylum Project (MAP), in collaboration with NALSAR University of Law, will host a two-day national dialogue on access to justice at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The conference, Nyaay Sabha 2026, will bring together members of the judiciary and legal fraternity, academic institutions, civil society organisations, philanthropies, and public institutions to examine how India's legal aid pathways can truly reach those it is intended for. India's legal aid system is among the largest in the world in terms of the population it is designed to serve. Yet conversations on justice reform often remain confined within legal institutions. This year's Sabha therefore asks a central question: how can India's legal aid architecture be reimagined, drawing in actors within and beyond the legal profession, to bridge this gap between people and institutions?

Moving beyond traditional gatherings of judges, lawyers, and paralegals, this event also brings to the table a wide spectrum of stakeholders who are deeply invested in justice outcomes and have the capacity to complement ongoing efforts to establish stronger, more inclusive justice delivery networks at the grassroots. At its heart lies the ambition to build a broad coalition capable of transforming the way legal aid is conceived, delivered, and sustained in the country.

Formats: The 2026 edition will feature the following:

  • Curated Conversations exploring pressing questions in the justice space: from strengthening institutional support for access to justice, and understanding ground realities of working in the space, to catalysing a stronger pro bono culture, and defining what the next phase of legal aid delivery will look like.
  • JusticeBlox, a competition showcasing three of the boldest ideas from student-led legal aid clinics across the country, each proposing innovative and scalable models to transform last-mile legal service delivery.
  • Nyaay Kala, a first-of-its-kind art exhibition, will present artists' interpretations of India's landmark judicial decisions through the use of compelling visual narratives, humanising the experiences of the real people at the centre of these narratives.

Featured Speakers: The Sabha will bring together influential leaders from the Bar, Bench, government, philanthropy, academia, and civil society. Speakers include Justice (Retd.) Anjana Prakash, Senior Advocate and former judge of the Patna High Court, Justice (Retd.) Rajeev Shakdher, Senior Advocate and former Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Mr. Amit Chandra, Chairperson, A.T.E Chandra Foundation; Dr. Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor, NALSAR University of Law; Ms. Maja Daruwala, Chief Editor, India Justice Report; and Mr. Atul Kaushik, Joint Secretary (Retd.) Department of Justice, among others.
