The Central Government today notified the appointment of two advocates as judges of the Allahabad High Court.

The Collegium had recommended the names of the following advocates for appointment as the judges of the HC on March 25:

(1) Amitabh Kumar Rai, and

(2) Rajiv Lochan Shukla

The Allahabad High Court is presently functioning with 85 judges (including Chief Justice Arun Bhansali) as against a sanctioned strength of 160.

The Collegium recently recommended the appointment of 26 judges to the Allahabad High Court.

Of the 26 names, 14 are Judicial Officers and 12 are Advocates, including 4 women.
