Justice Atul Sreedharan today took oath as judge of the Allahabad High Court. The oath of office was administered to him by Chief Justice Arun Bhansali.
After this development, the strength of judges at the Allahabad High Court has risen to 110. The sanctioned strength of judges at the HC is 160.
Justice Sreedharan was earlier serving as judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. On October 19, the Centre had notified Justice Sreedharan's transfer to Allahabad High Court.
On October 14, the Supreme Court Collegium had modified its earlier proposal to transfer Justice Sreedharan to Chhattisgarh High Court after the Union Government sought the reconsideration of the proposal.
This was after the Supreme Court collegium had in August recommended the transfer of 14 judges across various High Courts.
Speaking at his farewell ceremony at the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Atul Sreedharan while quoting poet Rahat Indori said, that transfers are an incident of service and the only thing permanent in the universe is impermanence.
Born on May 24th,1966, Justice Sreedharan joined the Chamber of Mr. Gopal Subramanium, Sr. Advocate in 1992 at Delhi and remained in his chamber till 1997.
During this period he assisted him in several, Civil and Criminal matters before the Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi and the Trial Court at Delhi.
From 1997 to December 2000, he practiced independently at Delhi. He shifted to Indore in the year 2001 and practiced independently and continuously before the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
He independently handled criminal and a few civil cases before the Trial Court and High Court, service matters and writ petitions before the High Court and also cases medical negligence before the consumer forums.
He represented the State of Madhya Pradesh as Panel Advocate before the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Bench at Indore from 2001 to 2003. He also represented the State of Madhya Pradesh as a Government Advocate before the High Court of Madhya Pradesh.
He was appointed as Central Government Counsel on in September 2005 to appear in cases on behalf of the Union of India till 2008. He was appointed as Central Government Counsel (Senior Panel) in 2010 to appear in cases on behalf of the Union of India till 2013.
He was appointed as Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in April 2016 and as a Permanent Judge in March 2018.
