Imran Khan Need Not Leave India Till November 2 : Centre Tells Bombay High Court
Bollywood actor Imran Khan will not have to leave India at least till Monday (November 2) as assured by the Foreigners Registration Regional Office (FRRO), Mumbai today (October 27) before the Bombay High Court.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna was hearing the plea filed by Khan challenging the "Leave India Notice" (LIN) issued to him by the FRRO, Mumbai asking him to leave the country by October 28 (tomorrow).
This action was initiated after Khan participated in the protests demanding resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
On Tuesday, when the matter was called out, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Anil Singh urged the bench to defer hearing of the matter till Monday (November 2) as the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta could not join the hearing through VC facility.
At this, Senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond pointed out that the LIN in question asks his client to leave India by October 28 i.e. tomorrow.
When Chief Justice Tripathi too pointed out this, ASG Singh said, "Milords, we are giving assurance as we are only seeking time till Monday."
Having heard him, the bench dictated a short order recording that SG Mehta has sought deferment of the hearing till Monday.
At this, ASG Singh urged the judges not to record anything (about the assurance).
Weighing in, Dhond said, "Since ASG has assured there is no need to record."
The bench therefore, adjourned the hearing till Monday.
