Update: Court returned to normalcy at about 3pm with some benches resuming hearings.
The Bombay High Court on Friday noon received a Bomb threat after which the court premises were vacated resulting in judges rising from the court even before the lunch break.
Initially, the bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, sitting in the central court, abruptly left the court hall. Bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Sandesh Patil were then asked to rise and subsequently, all the judges left their court halls.
However, there has not been any official confirmation of this news from the High Court Administration.
Advocate Uday Warunjikar, a member of the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa confirmed the development, saying, "Yes, there has been a bomb threat."
Even Senior Advocate Nitin Thakker, president of Bombay Bar Association (BBA) confirmed the news. He said, "We received a call from the Chief Justice's office asking us to vacate the premises. We haven't seen any specific call or email of threat but yes since we got a call, we cooperated. All the bar rooms and libraries and other departments of the High Court have been vacated."
Earlier today, the Delhi High Court was also vacated over bomb scare. A bomb disposal squad had also reached the premises there.
