The Bombay High Court on Wednesday (January 22) disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought to permit students with dysgraphia, a learning disability, to give oral examinations for their board examinations.

The PIL was filed by an NGO, Shubhamkaroti Charitable Trust and a teacher soguht to make arrangements for oral examinations for students suffering from dysgraphia, which makes it difficult to write, spell, and form words.

During the hearing today, the State counsel stated that the State Government has issued necessary Government Resolutions where such students are allowed to writers to whom they can dictate their answers during exams.

The counsel stated that the State Government has also framed a policy to provide extra time of 30 minutes for SSC students and 1 hour for HSC students who suffer from such disability.

As the government policy permitted writers for such students, a division bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Bharati Dangre said that no further orders need to be passed in the petition.

The Court stated, “We hope and trust that the students suffering from such disabilities are provided the necessary facilities in terms of the policy of the Board”

In view of the above, the Court disposed of the petition.
