An urgent mentioning was made before the Calcutta High Court on Thursday (May 14) challenging an order passed by the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to demolish Tiljala Factory, where two persons were killed in a fire just days ago.
The lawyer made the mentioning before the Bench of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen, alleging that the "bulldozer action" was illegal.
It was pointed that several homes have been demolished without notice. However, the Court refused to give any urgent relief and suggested the lawyer to file a proper petition.
"We cannot give urgent relief. First file and then come," the CJ said.
According to reports, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had stated that he ordered the demolition after a committee probing the incident found that the unit was operating illegally, without an approved building plan as well as basic fire and electric safety measures.
