The Delhi High Court on Tuesday (May 26) granted interim bail to jailed Baramulla MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh (Engineer Rashid) in a terror funding case registered by the National Investigation Agency, to attend the rituals and 40th day ceremony of his late father in Kashmir.

Engineer Rashid is currently on interim bail till June 02, to attend his father's last rites.

A division bench of Justice Prathiba M. Singh and Justice Madhu Jain clarified that he will surrender after expiry of the present interim bail period and will be released again from June 25 till June 30, to attend the rituals and 40th day ceremony of his deceased father.

The Court said he need not furnish personal bond and surety afresh, if it is already made to the satisfaction of Jail Superintendent. Further conditions for the interim bail will remain the same as the previous order.

"In reasonable cases like this, you should let it be...Look at how much judicial time consumed," the Court orally told the NIA counsel during the hearing.

Rashid was elected from the Baramulla constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after the NIA arrested him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in an alleged terror-funding case.

In January the high court had dismissed Rashid's appeal challenging an order framing charges against him in a UAPA case, stating that it is an interlocutory order against which appeal is not maintainable.

In doing so, the court referred to a coordinate bench's decision in December 2025 which had held that a charge order cannot be challenged in appeal under NIA Act as it is interlocutory in nature.
