The Central Government today notified the appointment of Gujarat High Court judge Justice NV Anjaria as the Next Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.

He will assume charge of the office, consequent upon the superannuation of Justice PS Dinesh Kumar, present Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on February 24, 2024.

Justice Anjaria was appointed as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court on 21 November 2011 and has been functioning there since then. His name was recommended as Karnataka HC's Chief Justice by the Supreme Court collegium on February 7.

The notification issued by the Ministry of Law & Justice (Department of Justice) notifying his appointment as the CJ of the Karnataka High Court read thus:

"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nilay Vipinchandra Anjaria, Judge, Gujarat High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office, consequent upon the superannuation of Shri Justice P. S. Dinesh Kumar, present Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on 24.02.2024."
