The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a plea filed by the alleged owner of 'Bangalore Metro Chicks' Instagram account, who had sought quashing the criminal proceedings against him over posting objectionable, non-consensual videos of women travelling in the Bengaluru Metro.

During the hearing Justice M. Nagaprasanna, while refusing to entertain the plea, orally expressed discontent over denial of safe environment to women.

“You don't leave women to be safe in a metro…You don't leave women to be safe anywhereYou take pictures of women from the front and back and post them on that Instagram page? What kind of men are you? Nonsense...”, the court orally remarked.

As per news reports, a 27-year-old accountant, B K Diganth from Karibonahalli, was arrested in May 2025 accused of recording and posting objectionable videos of women commuters.

At the relevant time, the Instagram account had over 6,000 followers and over 1,000 Telegram subscribers, with high engagement rates on the account's Instagram Reels.

The criminal proceedings, now at the stage of Summons, are ongoing against Diganth at an Additional CJM Court, Bengaluru, for the offences under Sections 78(2) [stalking],238(C) [furnishing false information] of BNS and 67 [posting obscene material online] of IT Act, initiated at the instance of a suo motu complaint by Banashankari Police Station.

When the counsel for the accused submitted that there are no obscene photos of women taken by the accused, and no offence has been made out and the investigating officer is himself the complainant the court said that a technicality cannot be a relief for the petitioner. It orally said,

“…No amount of technicality can override the act of yours... the time has come that we should stop on technicality in certain things...”.

Accordingly, the petition was dismissed.
