Janata Dal (S) Leader H.D Revanna withdrew on Thursday (April 30) his plea before Karnataka High Court seeking quashing of proceedings initiated against him for allegedly kidnapping a woman.
The single judge bench of Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav accepted the memo of withdrawal filed by Revanna's counsel and disposed of the petition to quash the proceedings.
On February 26 the high court had directed the trial court to continue its proceedings against the former minister. Previously, the high court had vacated its interim order stalling framing of charges against Revanna, after taking note of the lack of readiness on behalf of Revanna to go ahead with the matter on merits in view of repeated adjournments sought in the case.
As per the prosecution version before the trial court, the complainant's mother had worked for Revanna for about six years and was kidnapped by Satish Babanna on Revanna's instructions. Complainant said his friend brought to his notice a viral video allegedly pertaining to the sexual assault on his mother, and when he requested Babanna to send his mother back, the latter declined to do so. The complaint was lodged on May 2 at KR Nagara Police Station for offences U/s 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping to secretly confine), 34 (common intention) IPC.”
While HD Revanna is accused no. 1 before the trial court, accused no. 2-9 are Satish Babu HN @ Satish Babanna, Sujay, Madhu HN, Manugowda HD, ST Keerthi, KA Rajagopal, Bhavani Revanna (who is HD Revanna's wife) and Ajith Kumar.
Revanna was earlier granted bail by the special court on May 13, 2025. The High Court vide its order dated August 28, 2024, had dismissed the petition filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) seeking cancellation of bail granted.
