The Kerala High Court on Monday (August 3) granted regular bail to nine accused in the crime registered pursuant to the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials.
The case refers to the alleged attack on ED officials and damage to vehicles following an ED search operation at the residence of Opposition Leader Of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter on May 27.
Dr. Justice Kauser Edappagath today allowed pleas preferred by 9 accused, namely, Kiran P.S., Jeevan, Anil Kumar, Sreejith, Nishad, Sidarth S., Shefeek, Nandhu G.R., Rahul A. Rajan.
A detailed order is awaited.
The Court also orally remarked that the pleas of four more accused (Lenin Raj, Amal S.P., Vaisakh, Rahul), who have also approached the High Court, would be considered tomorrow.
"Police have still not recovered the weapon used. When will they do?...There are prima facie material, the allegations are very serious. Cannot be justified, cannot be condemned. But, they have been in custody for the last 67 days. Investigation is almost over. Nobody has any criminal antecedents," Justice Kauser orally noted.
According to the prosecution, as the ED officials were leaving the premises of the former CM's residence in three taxi vehicles around 2.40 p.m., a crowd of approximately 300 people allegedly surrounded the convoy and attacked the vehicles using stones, bricks, sticks and rods.
The Museum Police has registered the crime incorporating offences under sections 189(2), 191(2), 190, 126(2), 296(b), 132, 121(1), 118(1) and 109 of BNS and under section 3(1) of Prevention of Damage to public Property Act.
