The Kerala High Court was on Tuesday (January 06) informed by the Bar Council of India (BCI) that its Legal Education Committee will convene a meeting in 10 days to decide whether the compliance report submitted by the Government Law College, Kozhikode can be accepted for its affiliation.
The standing counsel for the BCI submitted before Justice V.G. Arun that the compliance report has been received but in view of the delay of 15 years, the decision as to whether the report can be accepted is upon the Legal Education Committee.
Earlier, the government pleader had told the Court that some fees has been remitted to the Bar Council over the years. However, the BCI's standing counsel said that merely paying the fees would not be enough and the College should submit a compliance report.
Accordingly, the Court had directed the government and the principal of the college to resolve the issue of lack of BCI affiliation to the college. In the said direction, the college was asked to submit a compliance report while the BCI was asked to get specific instructions as to whether the portal enabling payment of balance fee can be opened on the compliance report being filed.
Today, the Court recorded BCI's submission as well as that of the government pleader that if fees was being remitted regularly and if the Principal had been sending frequent communications to the BCI, these are also to be taken note of by the Committee while taking the decision.
"This Court expects a positive decision in the matter since the future of the students will be at stake otherwise," Justice Arun added in the order.
The matter is posted after 10 days for further consideration.
