The State government has informed the Kerala High Court that pension arrears of retired Kerala State Road Transport Corp (KSRTC) employees would be paid within 2 weeks.

These submissions came in a contempt plea, against the State for refusing to clear the pension arrears of the KSRTC employees.

Counsel representing the Transport Department previously informed the bench regarding the responsibility of payment of pension of KSRTC employees being handled by the government pursuant an order dated February 17, 2018.

He also added that pension had been paid to the employees without fail until June 2022.

Justice Devan Ramachandran heard the matter.

"It is unimaginable how they continue with their lives, particularly, medical assistance, education of students etc., if their pension is blocked for long periods, as three months and more" he stated.

Counsel for the State submitted that an order for the constitution of a consortium had been issued for the distribution of pensions, and the same would take place within two weeks.

The contempt petition filed by the petitioners has been posted for February 28.
