MP High Court Adjourns Case After Counsel 'In Shock' Over Bar Association Election Loss
The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday (August 19) adjourned a matter after noting that the arguing counsel seemed to be unavailable due to "shock" suffered after losing the High Court Bar Association election.
When the matter was called, the other counsel for the appellant prayed for an adjournment.
The bench of Justice Vivek Agarwal and Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh remarked:
"It appears that under shock due to loss in election to the High Court Bar Association, arguing counsel is not available today".
On August 8, the arguing counsel advocate Om Shankar Pandey had prayed that the case be listed on August 17 on account of his contesting the elections. He was contesting elections for the post of Secretary.
Reportedly, Senior Advocate Mrigendra Singh was elected President, while Aseem Trivedi was elected Secretary.
The case pertained to the imposition of a major penalty of stopping the pension of a retired employee. The major penalty was imposed after he was convicted, but the said conviction came after his retirement.
