P&H High Court Bar Association Seeks FIR Listing Names Of Haryana Cops Who Allegedly Assaulted Lawyer, Continues Strike
The Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has called for continued abstention from work across district courts of Punjab and Haryana, reiterating its demand for stringent action against Haryana Police officials allegedly involved in the assault of a lawyer.
The Punjab Government today in a suo moto cognizance taken by the High Court submitted before the High Court that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons in a case where Haryana Police allegedly assaulted a lawyer in Punjab.
In a notice issued by the Association's Secretary Gagandeep Jammu, it was informed that pursuant to the demands raised by the HCBA, the Punjab Police has registered an FIR against officials of CIA-1, Hisar. However, the FIR has presently been registered against unknown persons, a development which the Association has termed insufficient.
The Executive Committee of the HCBA has formally demanded that the names of the concerned police officials be specifically incorporated in the FIR, that appropriate penal provisions be added, and that the concerned Station House Officer (SHO) be transferred and/or placed under suspension.
The Association further stated that the competent authorities have assured it that requisite action will be taken expeditiously in the matter.
In view of the latest developments, a General House meeting of the Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association has been scheduled for 18 December 2025 at 1:00 PM, to deliberate upon the situation and the assurances extended by the authorities.
Meanwhile, the HCBA has made it clear that the abstention from work will continue until all its demands are fully met.
