'Very Serious Misconduct': Rajasthan High Court Orders Inquiry Into Police Inspector Making Social Media Reels To Build Fan Following
The Rajasthan High Court has ordered the Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry in the matter of a Police Inspector making reels with his son, and uploading on social media platforms, to create fan following.
The bench of Justice Ashok Kumar Jain observed that the alleged acts constitute 'very serious misconduct' on part of the officer.
The Court was hearing a bail application wherein the applicant was accused of rash and negligent driving and an attempt to commit culpable homicide.
It was the case of the applicant that the complainant, who was working as a C.I. Traffic was in the habit of making reels along with his son. On the date of the incident, the complainant allegedly stopped the car of the applicant and his son suddenly jumped in front of the car to make a dramatic reel of the stunt. In that process, he met with an accident and was injured.
In this background, the FIR was lodged against the applicant alleging performance of stunts on the road that resulted in injury to the complainant's son. The applicant contended that he was falsely implicated in the matter.
After hearing the contentions, the Court highlighted that the injuries of the complainant's son was the result of the act by the vehicle, and the applicant or the injured were unknown to each other. Hence, there was no mens rea behind the incident.
Considering that the investigation was complete and the applicant was no longer required, the bail application was allowed.
However, before parting the Court observed,
“A Police Inspector indulged in preparing reels and further uploading them on social media, whether Instagram, Facebook or any other social media platform, with the assistance of his son, thereby creating a fan following, which itself is a very serious misconduct. The DGP, Rajasthan, is directed to conduct an inquiry and send a report to this Court within a period of two months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.”
