The Centre for Labour Laws (CLL), National Law Institute University, Bhopal, in collaboration with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), India's largest and most distinguished law firm, presents the 1st NLIU–CAM Certificate Course on Labour & Employment Laws, 2026.

This two-day intensive programme is designed to provide participants with comprehensive exposure to contemporary developments in labour and employment law. The course addresses the evolving landscape of work in India and globally, exploring critical themes that are reshaping the future of employment relations and workplace governance.

The curriculum has been meticulously crafted to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical application, offering participants insights into cutting-edge legal issues, regulatory frameworks, and commercial considerations that define modern labour and employment practice.

ABOUT NLIU BHOPAL

The National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU), was established in 1997 by the Madhya Pradesh State Legislature and is recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India. Since launching its first B.A. LL.B. ABOUT CENTRE FOR LABOUR LAWS (CLL)

The Centre for Labour Laws (CLL) is a student-run initiative at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, dedicated to promoting awareness, research, and reform in the field of labour and employment laws. Established in 2019, CLL gained widespread recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic through its flagship initiative Mazdoor Mitra, which aimed to address the struggles of migrant workers during the nationwide lockdown. Since then, it has evolved into a strong voice advocating for the rights and dignity of the working class across India.

CLL actively works towards creating a more informed and equitable environment for labourers and workmen by fostering legal awareness and encouraging critical research. Over the past few years, the Centre has collaborated with policy experts, legal professionals, academicians, and government stakeholders to initiate dialogue and action on issues affecting the nation's workforce

INSTRUCTORS

· Abe Abraham (Partner, CAM): A distinguished expert with over 20 years of experience, lead counsel for the PSU Mega Consolidation, and recognized as a "Future Leader 2026".

· Abhilash Tyagi (Associate, CAM): An expert in regulatory compliance and workplace policy formulation who has authored significant chapters on Indian employment law.

COURSE OUTLINE

Day 1: The Modern Employer-Employee Relationship

  • AI, Automation, and Labour Market Polarisation: Analyzing how emerging technologies influence wage distribution and legal scrutiny in HR decisions.
  • Employment Contracts and Restrictive Covenants: A deep dive into drafting non-compete clauses, garden leave, and non-solicitation agreements to protect proprietary interests.
  • Workplace Surveillance: Discussion on data protection and post-termination restrictions in the Indian context.

Day 2: The Future of Work and Global Standards

  • The Changing Face of Employment Relations: Managing decentralized/hybrid work models, the "right to disconnect," and inclusive policies such as third-gender recognition and menstrual leave.
  • Gig Economy & Moonlighting: Navigating the unique health and safety challenges posed by new engagement models.
  • Globalisation and ESG: Examining how international trade policies and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria affect domestic compliance.

ELIGIBILITY

The Certificate Course is open to law students currently in their third year or above of the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) or equivalent integrated law programmes. A total of 50 participants will be selected from law universities and institutions across India on a merit basis.

SELECTION PROCESS

The screening process requires interested students to submit:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) – detailing academic background, achievements, and relevant experience
  2. Statement of Purpose (SOP) – briefly outlining the candidate's interest in Labour and Employment Laws and their motivation for joining the course (maximum 500 words)

The Centre for Labour Laws (CLL), in consultation with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, will conduct a thorough review of all applications. Final selection will be based on:

  • Academic background and merit
  • Demonstrated interest in labour and employment law
  • Quality and clarity of the Statement of Purpose
  • Overall profile and potential for meaningful engagement with the course material

Please note: Registration does not automatically guarantee participation. Only shortlisted candidates will be eligible to complete final registration and attend the course.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

The registration process is structured into two phases:

Phase 1: Application Submission

Interested candidates must submit their Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Statement of Purpose (SOP) through the registration link by 19th January 2026, 11:59 PM.

Phase 2: Final Registration

Upon meticulous review by the Centre for Labour Laws (CLL) and CAM, the organizing team will shortlist the top 50 participants based on academic background, merit, and demonstrated interest in the field.

The list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on 21st January 2026.
