Vide Office Order dated 02nd March, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has informed that the Chief Justice of the High Court has constituted 'National Law University, Advisory Committee' to look after the matters pertaining to Himachal Pradesh National Law University.

This committee will comprise the following two Judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court: -

  • Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan
  • Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua

It may be noted that the Chief Justice of the High Court shall be the ex-officio Chairman of the Committee.

Importantly, all recommendations made by the Committee shall have to be placed before the Chief Justice of the High Court before any follow-up action is taken thereon.

About Himachal Pradesh National Law University

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU, Shimla), was established by the State Government in the year 2016, by an Act of the Legislature (Act 16 of 2016). The University started functioning from 5th of October, 2016.

The University had decided to join CLAT Consortium from the Academic Session 2019-2020.

In the year 2018, Prof. Nishtha Jaswal was appointed as the first woman Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla.

The Chief Justice of HP High Court and Chancellor of HP National Law University had appointed Dr. Nishtha Jaswal as the VC for a tenure of five years.

In a first of its kind, Dr. Nishtha Jaswal and Prof. Paramjit S Jaswal, VC RGNUL, become the first couple to be Vice-Chancellors of two NLUs at the same time.
