Self-styled godman Rampal was on Tuesday reportedly sentenced to life imprisonment by a sessions court in Haryana's Hisar in connection with two murder cases.

Rampal and the other convicts have also been fined with Rs. 1 lakh each, after being found guilty of offences under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days) and 120 B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the India Penal Code.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Hisar, DR Chaliya had last week found him guilty in the two cases. The quantum of punishment was pronounced today.

Rampal and 27 of his followers were charged with murder and wrongful confinement after a child and four women were found dead in his Satlok Ashram in Barwala town in Hisar on November 19, 2014.

The bodies were discovered after two men complained that their wives had been murdered inside Rampal's ashram at Barwala village where they had been held captive by the godman and his followers following clashes with police.
