In the abetment of the suicide case of 25-year-old TCS Manager, Manav Sharma, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday refused to quash an FIR lodged against his in-laws in Agra.

Noting that the FIR against them prima facie reveals the commission of the cognizable offence, a bench of Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Prashant Kumar dismissed their writ plea.

The division bench, however, made it open for the petitioners to apply before the competent court for anticipatory bail/bail as permissible under law and in accordance with law.

Sharma's father-in-law (Nipendra Kumar Sharma), mother-in-law (Poonam Sharma), and two sisters-in-law approached the HC, challenging the FIR under Section 108 BNS, submitting that they had not committed any offence and had been implicated due to malicious intention.

It was also their case that the allegations levelled against them are highly improbable and unbelievable; as such, the impugned FIR is liable to be quashed.

On the other hand, the AGA opposed the prayer for quashing of the FIR.

Sharma died by suicide last month, alleging marital harassment. Before hanging himself, he recorded a 6+ minute video in which he blamed his wife for pushing him to this point. Shortly after, an undated video of Sharma's wife went viral on social media, where she claimed that her husband would become aggressive after drinking.
