The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted interim protection from arrest to well-known hairstylist Jawed Habib and his son Anosh Habib in connection with an alleged case of multi-crore investment fraud.
The Court has directed that no coercive action be taken against them until the police conclude the investigation and file a chargesheet.
A Bench of Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Achal Sachdeva passed the order while disposing of a batch of petitions filed by the duo challenging a series of FIRs lodged at Sambhal District in UP and seeking a restraint on their arrest.
The FIRs, 32 in number, alleged that the father-son duo conducted a seminar in September 2023, where attendees were encouraged to sums ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹20 lakh in a company named FLC (Follicle Global Company) with assurances of attractive returns.
According to the FIRs, the investors neither received the promised profits nor a refund of their principal amounts even two years later.
Facing multiple FIRs, Habib and his son moved the High Court by filing 8 separate petitions, seeking quashing of proceedings as well as interim protection from arrest.
Their counsels argued that the allegations were exaggerated and that the matter required a deeper scrutiny at the stage of investigation.
After examining the case records and the relief sought, the Bench stayed their arrest and clarified that the protection would continue till the chargesheet is filed.
