Taking a serious view of the act of a Pairokar found recording court proceedings on his mobile phone, the Allahabad High Court on Monday issued a show-cause notice to him for contempt.
A bench of Justice Krishan Pahal termed the act a "serious interference with the administration of justice" and a prima facie case of criminal contempt.
The incident occurred during the hearing of a bail application filed by one Ravendra Kumar Dhobi. During the course of arguments, the Court noticed that the Pairokar for the accused was recording the proceedings without permission.
Upon inquiry, the said person admitted to the act. Justice Pahal observed that such conduct amounts to a substantial interference with the due course of justice under the Contempt of Courts Act.
In its order, the Bench noted:
"The said act...amounts to contempt of Court. This act constitutes a serious interference with the administration of justice and a prima facie case of criminal contempt."
Consequently, the Court issued a notice to him, returnable on December 18, 2025. He has been directed to show cause as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.
Following the incident, Justice Pahal directed that the matter be listed before an appropriate Bench, stating "not before me". The case has been referred to the Chief Justice for the nomination of a different Bench.
