Centre Notifies Appointment Of Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal To Perform Duties Of The Office Of Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice
The Central Government on Friday (September 4) notified the appointment of Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court pursuant to the retirement of outgoing Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha upon his retirement today.
A notification issued by the Union Law Ministry states:
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court consequent upon retirement of Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court on 04.09.2026"
Notably, Justice Agrawal was recently recommended by the Supreme Court collegium as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. The recommendation came amidst the controversy surrounding Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, against whom Supreme Court Judge Justice Sandeep Mehta raised serious complaints in his letters to the Chief Justice of India. The lawyers of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association today decided to abstain from work till September 5, demanding the appointment of a regular CJ.
