The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Chief Justices at four High Courts.

At the meeting held on August 31, the Collegium resolved to recommend Justice Sanjay K Agarwal, presently serving as a Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. The recommendation came amidst the controversy surrounding Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, against whom Supreme Court Judge Justice Sandeep Mehta raised serious complaints in his letters to the Chief Justice of India. The lawyers of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association today decided to abstain from work till September 5, demanding the appointment of a regular CJ.

The second recommendation is regarding the appointment of Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje, presently serving as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Lastly, the collegium recommended Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, presently serving as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, to be appointed as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

In another meeting, held on August 6, the Collegium recommended the appointment of Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, a judge of the High Court of Orissa, as the next Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court. The statement of August 6 meeting was uploaded today.

Justice Mohapatra has been recommended to succeed the incumbent Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, whose term is set to end with retirement on September 4, 2026.
