The Chhattisgarh High Court has taken cognizance of a horrific incident where a four-year-old LKG student was allegedly tied with a rope and hung from a tree by two female teachers purportedly over his failure to complete homework.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru took cognizance of a newspaper report which highlighted the unfortunate incident from a private school of Narayanpur village in Surajpur district. As per the report, the child's shirt was tied with a rope and he was hung from a tree by two female teachers.

The incident came to the light after a video filming the same became viral on social media. The said video is said to be filmed by a youth who was standing on a nearby rooftop. The teachers allegedly attempted to stop the man from taking the video instead of sparing the child from such brutal corporal punishment.

A preliminary inquiry was held which concluded the teachers' action to be “completely wrong”. A detailed report was submitted to senior District Officials for determining the next course of action. The District Education Officer (DEO) also asked for a reply from the school management based on which action shall be taken.

“It is also apparent from the news report that although the child was reported to be safe, the parents raised questions over the incident,” the Court remarked.

The Bench asked the Secretary, State School Education Department to file personal affidavit even though the Additional Advocate General assured the Court that appropriate action has been taken against the teachers.

The matter has now been listed on December 09, 2025.
