The Gujarat High Court on Thursday (April 30) has extended the temporary bail granted to Asaram–who was convicted in a 2013 rape case by a Gandhinagar sessions court–till June 15.

For context, the high court had suspended his sentence and granted him six month temporary bail on medical ground on November 6, 2025. Thereafter Asaram moved an application for extension of temporary bail.

A division bench of Justice Ilesh J Vora and Justice RT Vachhani in its order noted:

"Having heard the learned advocates appearing for the rival sides and considering the grounds stated in the application, pointing out the medical condition of the applicant – convict and considering the fact no untoward incident has been reported while the applicant – convict is released on temporary bail, pending the present application, the temporary bail granted to the applicant vide order dated 06/11/2025 passed in CR.MA (For Regular Bail) No.4 of 2025 in CR.A No.607 of 2023 is extended upto 15th June, 2026; on the same terms and conditions as mentioned in the said order".

The applicant's counsel submitted that the applicant would require constant medical surveillance, periodic evaluation and immediate access to emergency care and therefore, considering the medical cause stated in the application, the temporary bail granted to the applicant may be extended for a further period of six months.

Meanwhile the State's counsel submitted that since the applicant's appeal challenging is conviction in another rape case is pending before Rajasthan High Court has been reserved for judgment, the high court may not entertain the application for extension of temporary bail.

Notably, the Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday extended Asaram's interim bail up-till May 25 or up to the date the judgment is delivered by the court in his criminal appeal challenging conviction in a rape case, whichever date is earlier. A Jodhpur sessions court had sentenced Asaram to life imprisonment in April 2018 for raping a minor at his ashram in 2013.

The matter is listed on June 12.
